Staff Benefits
Our people are our most important asset and as an employer we want to support and acknowledge their contribution.
Learning & development opportunities
Rotorua Lakes Council has a huge range of different roles. Regardless of where you are in your career, and even where you work – we have the tools and resources to help you think about and plan your career. We can offer financial and other assistance for courses, certification programmes and examinations that directly relate to your day-to-day job, and in some cases, for wider career development.
Flexible working options
Where appropriate, flexible working arrangements can be agreed to with your manger. We understand that life doesn’t always fit neatly into a nine to five work day and are happy to work with employees to find arrangements that suit.
Workplace health and wellness programme – WorkWell
At Rotorua Lakes Council we are committed to improving, promoting and protecting the wellbeing of our workforce. We want you to lead a healthy working life. We operate a workplace wellness programme and provide many health and wellbeing initiatives, such as free access to the Aquatic Centre, monthly occupational health nurse visits providing free health checks and advice, healthy eating options, quit-smoking support, communal bikes, and various other physical and mental wellbeing activities.
Flu vaccinations
Council offers an annual flu vaccination for all staff at no cost.
Eye tests for VDU users
Staff who work for at least three hours per day with VDU equipment qualify for a paid eye test and possible subsidy for glasses upgrade.
Bicycles
Bicycles are available for staff use during the working day to encourage cycling rather than using a Council car to travel short distances. Our fleet also includes e-bikes.
Superannuation
A subsidised superannuation scheme is available to all permanent staff members. SuperLife’s superannuation scheme is council’s preferred provider. New staff are able to join KiwiSaver in line with current legislation.
Health insurance
Permanent staff are eligible for discounted Southern Cross membership or SuperLife’s Medical Plan through Council.
Fuel discounts
By applying for a Fuel Discount Card, Council staff have access to the same special petrol and diesel discounts Rotorua Lakes Council gets from its contract with participating providers.
Social club
Our social club is open to all staff. Monthly happy hours provide an opportunity for members to get together over a few drinks on a Friday evening. Special events are held during the year including interdepartmental challenges and farewell parties for retiring/resigning members, and a six monthly and annual social event. New staff members are encouraged to join the social club as a way to meet new friends, get to know your work mates and enjoy numerous social activities during the year.
Chamber of commerce member to member (M2M) discount programme
This card entitles you to various fantastic discounts.
Free admission into the Aquatic Centre
To enhance your health and wellbeing Council staff have free access to the pools at the Rotorua Aquatic Centre.
